THRONE OF GLASS BY SARAH J. MAAS; Book Review

Publisher: Bloomsbury
Publication date: August 7, 2012
Number of Pages: 416

Goodreads Summary:

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.

Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another.

Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

Hello everyone! My name is Czar :) and today i'm going to do a book review for Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas!
This book is being hyped on, everywhere! So i bought it immediately, since i've heard really good things about it and because of this gorgeous cover! A+ for the designing team!

This book was good, kept my interest but it wasn't the book that will go to my favorites list :) Maybe because I expected too much from this book. I expected this book to be fast paced, action packed on every page. And all those good reviews about it.

I didn't connect with Celaena, and her name is very hard to pronounce. I learned how to pronounce it when I read the last pages *sighs*. And she was too arrogant about herself which I didn't really like. At the first pages, it was said that she's the best assassin in the land. In some scenes (on the first or 2nd chapter i guess), she says to herself that she could just kill the prince even when she is cuffed. Which was pretty arrogant, if you ask me.

She believes that she is so beautiful, that all boys would fall for her.

In the book, it was trying to say that she's Perfect. basically, there's nothing she is bad at. And the fact that she knew it. She knew that she was pretty and guys would just stop to look at her, that she's very good in combat, very good in everything. I like her spirit though. That she believes in herself that she could do that, but to the point of being too arrogant wasn't really okay for me. It didn't really suit me very well. That's why I didn't connect with her more.

Now let's talk about Dorian. I found him Okay. He was just like, all the other boys in books who are jocks and popular. But except that Dorian is the crown prince. And he seems to be perfect. His personality is just the same, i didn't see any character development. And I would love to see that in Dorian. And the love interest between Dorian and Celaena feels fake. There were no chemistry surrounding them. It feels forced. And there were a lot of the two of them scenes and it bore me reading because it feel unnatural.

I feel more chemistry with Chaol and Celaena. And it makes me sad because there weren't much scense showing the two of them really bonding with each other. And I saw the layers of Chaol's personality. Unlike Dorian. But im pretty sure that Celaena will end up with Dorian, but I wish it would be Chaol.

I like Nehemia's character. She was cool and awesome. And I got to see her different personalities and got to know her even more.

And before I started this book, I thought the story would be centered on the competition. but it wasn't. I wish it was though. There weren't much of the competition scenes. And the plot was slow paced, and made me read the book really slow. I'm a fast reader, but if the book is in a day-to-day pace, i will get bored easily. There was just enough entertainment for me to keep going. But the final competition was really cool and fast paced.

I know my review is basically centered on the bad aspects of this book, but that doesn't mean I dont like this book. I enjoyed reading this book and I cant wait to read the next one! :) and I think that this book is just a solid 4 bananas. No more, no less :)
