The Fill In Boyfriend by Kasie West; Book review

Publication date: May 5th 2015
Publisher: HarperTeen
Format: Kindle Edition
Number of Pages: 352
Goodreads description: When Gia Montgomery's boyfriend, Bradley, dumps her in the parking lot of her high school prom, she has to think fast. After all, she'd been telling her friends about him for months now. This was supposed to be the night she proved he existed. So when she sees a cute guy waiting to pick up his sister, she enlists his help. The task is simple: be her fill-in boyfriend— two hours, zero commitment, a few white lies. After that, she can win back the real Bradley.

The problem is that days after prom, it's not the real Bradley she's thinking about, but the stand-in. The one whose name she doesn't even know. But tracking him down doesn't mean they're done faking a relationship. Gia owes him a favor and his sister intends to see that he collects: his ex-girlfriend's graduation party — three hours, zero commitment, a few white lies.

Just when Gia begins to wonder if she could turn her fake boyfriend into a real one, Bradley comes waltzing back into her life, exposing her lie, and threatening to destroy her friendships and her new-found relationship.

Hey guys! Long time no book review. I have been writing reviews on goodreads, those short reviews not too critique on stuff. But I just really want to share to you guys a book that I recently read in one sitting that I think a lot of people should read for fun.

This is my first Kasie West book and it was a great introduction to her writing style. Just by the title of the book, you can easily guess what the plot is. So basically, Gia, our MC was dumped by his boyfriend and it was prom night. Everybody in her friends expects her to show up with a boyfriend or else they'll think her boyfriend didn't even existed and she was just lying to them. So she finds a random guy in a parking lot and asks him to be her boyfriend, just for the night. Even the premise sounds really fun and cute!

How the whole ''can you be my fill in boyfriend'' was really executed in a way that it was really funny and really cute. The plot was always moving. If something is revealed, something pops up and makes you curious on what will happen next. It's such a page turner! I also liked how this book wasn't focused

I really liked the characters. Gia was a bit shallow at times but her character developed in the course of the book. Gia's new found friendship was the real gold for me. I really enjoyed the parts wherein Gia was stepping out of her box and meeting new people.

This book wasn't all about the romance. Yes, it is the center of the book but it's also about family, friendship and getting to know yourself more. The family aspect lacked for me, I wish I saw more of Gia with her parents and her brother. If you think this book is heavy from what I told you, you know the family aspects, it's not. It really isn't. It's very light and it doesn't give you the ''MY HEART IS SO HEAVY WHY IS THIS'' feels.

I wasn't really satisfied with the ending. All the threads weren't woven together. To say, there were loose ends. There was no clear resolution with the relationship of Gia with her brother and her friends. I wish there was so that I wouldn't be left here hanging with so many questions.

So overall, I really enjoyed this book. It was light and fun and really cute. Even the cover screams ''READ ME. I'M CUTE AND FUN" I didn't really have major problems with this book, I just wish there was a full resolution. I highly recommend this book for people who want to have a fun and cute read.
